How to Make Neat Images of Coins

When you are online and into coin business you need to have good photos of coins. It is very important to have some neat images when you talk about some coins. If you are into Coin Selling, Coin Auctions or Coin literature you need neat and clear images. A good coin image will help you communicate your coin more effectively. Let us talk about imaging coins.

If you ask me I will tell you that photography is the best way to take coin images. For this you need a camera with macro photographic option. It is better to have a tripod and a well lit up area to start with. You now need a back ground that may be plane and smooth. Select the best coin in your lot and place the same under the camera lens. Adjust the distance between camera and the coin so that an optimum sized clear image is formed. Light up the coin from at least two sides. Make sure that your coin is exactly inline with the lens and take photographs using timer option if it is available. Take two or three photos and later you can select the best one.

After collecting the images you can do a bit of editing. Picasso is good enough for most of the collectors. Do a bit of cropping and leveling. Align the image vertically and tag it. Now you have to make a smaller image by exporting the same to another folder. Or you can upload the image to Picasso Web Album and share from there as you wish. Images of 1000 + pixels is good enough. Now you are ready with your images. Talk a little and communicate a lot with your images.

8 Common Copper Coins of Travancore Princely State

The Kingdom of Travancore was a former Hindu feudal kingdom and Indian princely state that had been ruled by the Travancore Royal Family from the capital at Padmanabhapuram or Thiruvananthapuram. The Kingdom of Travancore has its own currency system. The coins are Cash, Chukrum and Fanam. These coins were minted in Copper, Bronze, Silver and Golod. The Travancore rupee was the currency of the State of Travancore which was subdivided into 7 fanam, each of 4 chakram, each of 16 cash. The Travancore currency was issued until 1949 before being replaced by the Indian rupee. Silver coins were issued in the denominations of 2 chakrams, 4 chakrams, 7 chakram (1/4 rupee), 14 chakram (1/2 rupee). Copper coins were struck in the denominations of 1 cash, 4 cash, 8 cash, and 1 chakram (=16 cash). The exchange rate with the British Indian rupee was set at 1 British Indian rupee = 28 chakram, 8 cash; equivalently, 1 Tranvancore rupee = 15 annas, 8.63 pies of a British Indian rupee. History of stamp collecting

Postage stamp collecting began at the same time that stamps were first issued by their country, and by 1860 thousands of collectors and stamp dealers were appearing around the world as this new study and hobby spread across Europe, European colonies the United States and other parts of the world. The first postage stamp, the Penny Black, was issued by Britain in 1840 and pictured a young Queen Victoria. It was produced without perforations (imperforate) and consequently had to be cut from the sheet with scissors in order to be used. While unused examples of the "Penny Black" are quite scarce, used examples are quite common, and may be purchased for $20 to $200, depending upon condition.

Postage stamps and postal history of Portuguese India

Just now I have visited a group called Postage stamps and postal history of Portuguese India on Facebook pages. I just liked the page and would like to introduce the same to you. The postal history of Portuguese India goes back to the earlier days of the colony. The postal history begins with communication between the Viceroy and the Court at Lisbon soon after the conquest of Old Goa by Afonso de Albuquerque in 1510. Letters, written in triplicate, were carried by separate ships because of the hazards of the voyage. Mail was carried by an overland route, as well. The early communications of Portuguese India had an official character and the correspondence is now to be found in museums and governmental and ecclesiastical archives. Regular mail is known to have been exchanged with Lisbon from 1825 on. Portuguese Indian postmarks are known from 1854, when a post office opened in Goa and an extraterritorial British East India Company post office opened in Damaun. A Portuguese Indian post office opened at Diu, also, in 1880. Before the Universal Postal Union was established in 1874, a country had to conclude a separate postal treaty with each other country with which it transacted international mail. Portugal had a postal convention with Great Britain, so mail was routed through Bombay and carried on British packets.
